Philosophy in Prison

Philosophy in Prison is a registered charity in the United Kingdom established in 2018. Its goal is to make philosophy accessible to those who might not have access to, or feel served by, other traditional prison education programs.

This includes those who might not have the required educational background or English skills. Philosophy is a discipline that speaks to our common humanity and goals: friendship, knowledge, meaning, ethics. Everyone should have access to philosophy, and the charity’s goal is to facilitate this access. Additionally, academic philosophy should be open to learning from the insights of people coming from different perspectives. Watch this video for more.

Mike Stuart, Associate Professor at the Institute, works as an advisor and course designer for Philosophy in Prison, and is happy to discuss starting similar initiatives in Taiwan.
