“In recent years, studies with human brain organoids (three-dimensional brain tissue generated in vitro from stem cells) have been progressing. Among them, there have been reported the connection of human brain organoids to other differentiated tissues in human body parts and the evaluation of the neurological functions of brain organoids. With these advances in human brain organoid research, there is a concern that the formation of neural circuits closer to the brain in the living body may lead to brain organoids becoming conscious. In my talk, I will discuss the problems that may arise in the creation and use of human brain organoids.”
